California’s water system is energy-intensive, pumping and treating water that has been transported hundreds of miles and thousands of feet over a diversity of geographic areas. Despite the inextricable interdependence of power and water systems, these systems and their regulating bodies often operate in isolation from one another. From improving California’s energy intensity methodology, using energy data to fine-tune groundwater extraction information, and facilitating energy demand response in the water sector—The Center for Water-Energy Efficiency engages with stakeholders at all levels to advance water management solutions for the integrated savings of water and energy resources.
